PLEASE NOTE:

INSTRUCTOR FLORENCE WILL IN BRAZIL FROM THE 20TH JAN 2010 UNTIL 24TH FEB 2010. She is off to dance in the famous carnaval parade or Salvador da Bahia, but also source new music and dance choreographies to bring back for this new year.

For class times during Florence’s absence see timetable - classes will be run by Rikki Costa on WED and THURS NIGHTS ONLY.  Class will resume as per timetable when Florence gets back!!

Bahia Alegria dance fitness classes are bursting with hot, pumping energy!  Let  the rhythms  of  Swing Baiano (Brazilian music typically from Salvador da Bahia) take control of your body and dance easy  and cheeky choreographies to popular Brazilian music. The emphasis is all about moving and having fun -burning calories has never been made more easy! Brazilian dance has no strict rules or dance steps like ballroom latin or other formal dance classes so come along - be free, fluid, and ready for some hip-shaking fun!

A one hour class will begin with an intense warm up to get everyone in the spirit, followed by continuous music where you can copy easy steps from the instructor.  Next the class includes 6 or 7 choreographies which the instructor will go through before putting to music.  The class concludes with a relaxing warm down – which you will be needing to calm down from the excitement and intense energy of BAHIA ALEGRIA!   Each of the choreographies are broken down and VERY repetitive – so it doesn’t matter if you don’t catch it all at first, you will have many chances during a song to get up to speed and confident with the steps.

The choreographies are developed from original dances which are danced in the streets, festivals, bars,  parties and gym classes of Brazil.

BAHIA ALEGRIA classes include several styles of dance:  Ax’e, Pagode, Afro-Braziliero, Samba, Forro and others.  Learn each style and be introduced to the music of famous Brazilian groups and artists such as: Ivete Sangalo, Timbalada, Olodum, Harmonia do Samba, Psirico, Oz Bambaz and many others.  Let the rhythm and percussion of Brazils mix of Afro, Indio and Portuguese cultures embrace you…
